The Chair
ETH Zurich's Chair of Logistics Management within the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics, and under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Stephan M. Wagner, strives to shape the theory and practice of supply chain management in the commercial and humanitarian sector.
To accomplish our goal, our mission is three-fold: It begins with groundbreaking research that is creating the next generation of supply chain knowledge. The Chair’s supply chain curriculum and professional courses reflect this new knowledge, which is applied to the real world through joint industrial and academic practice. Although the research thrusts of the chair will be evolving in nature, three areas are of particular interest at large: supply chain management, purchasing and supply management, and logistics and transportation management.
The group’s work centers around:
- Buyer–supplier relationships
- Supplier innovation
- Entrepreneurship–operations management interface
- Digitalization in the supply chain
- Sustainable supply chain managment
- Humanitarian operations and supply chain management
- Innovation in last-mile logistics services
We apply multiple methods and enhance supply chain management in two important ways:
- Identifying evidence of phenomena that happen in practice
- Providing direct prescriptions on how to improve the practice of supply chain management
