Short Bio

Dr. Jing Shan is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of Logistics Management. He holds a Ph.D. in International Rail Freight Transport, which he completed at the Chair of Railway Operations and the Chair of Transport Services and Logistics at the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), Germany. He holds an M.Sc. in Railway Systems Engineering from the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD).

Jing has extensive industry experience in the rail freight sector in Europe. He has served as Director of Business Development for China Railway in Germany (2019-2022) and FELB Austria (2016-2018). He also held positions as Assistant to the Management at Rail Cargo Group (ÖBB) (2018-2019) and Interrail (2015-2016).

His doctoral research focused on the management of international rail transport, in particular Eurasian rail transport. At the 2024 TRA Vision "Young Researcher Competition" held in Dublin he was awarded second prize in the rail mode category for his work on "Supply Chain oriented Integrated Tactical Planning Method (ITPM) for international rail freight transport".

He is co-author of a book on Eurasian freight trains and has published his work in various conference proceedings and journals. He is also a frequent interviewee on the strategies and operations related to the China-Europe freight train system.

His research focuses on the railway supply chain, which lies at the intersection of supply chain management, rail freight transport, and global supply chains. He aims to advance international rail systems to enhance global supply chain resilience. Jing is an active member of the International Rail Freight Business Association (IBS).
