This year´s external pageMSOM Conference was hosted by National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School and the NUS Business Analytics Centre under the motto “Smart Operations for Smart Cities”. In line with this theme, Felix Bergmann presented research on “Last-Mile Delivery with Time Windows and Uncertainty: Staffing Demands and Service Guarantees”. In this work, we bring machine learning approaches, queuing theory and urban last-mile logistics together to facilitate staffing decisions about crowd-sourced couriers when tight time windows have to be met in the delivery process of e-commerce parcels. Moreover, we conduct this joint research project with Prof. Dr. Stefan Feuerriegel and Mathias Kraus from the Chair of Management Information Systems (MIS) in an effort to foster collaboration among the chairs at Department for Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC).
