Strong contribution of the Chair of Logistics Management in the ‘management’ subject to the ShanghaiRanking for ETH Zurich

The latest “Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020” revealed that ETH Zurich’s research in the field of management is no. 1 in the German-speaking counties and plays in the European top league. The scholarly work of the Chair of Logistics Management contributes to this achievement.

The internationally recognized Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) (the “ShanghaiRanking”) annually positions universities as well as individual subjects within universities based on research performance. It contains data from 54 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. In total, more than 4,000 universities are ranked. The work of the Chair of Logistics Management is reflected in the ‘management’ subject.

In 2020, within the ‘management’ subject ETH Zurich was placed in the category top 51-75 (improved compared to the previous years). The University of St. Gallen was placed in the category 76-100 and EPFL Lausanne and University of Zurich in the category 101-150. Other technical universities in Europe also scored in the latter category (Delft University of Technology, Technical University of Munich). At the aggregate external pageuniversity level ranking, ETH Zurich ranked no. 20 worldwide in 2020.

Several objective indicators of academic or research performance, including papers published in respected journals, highly cited research, international collaboration on papers, or the total number of staff winning a significant award are analyzed for the ranking.

The persistent scholarly work of the Chair of Logistics Management contributes to this achievement. For example, articles in Web of Science with Q1 Journal Impact Factor Quartile count high. Hence, our numerous publications in the external pageJournal of Supply Chain Management (10/226 within Management, 2019), external pageOrganizational Research Methods (18/226 within Management, 2019), the external pageJournal of Business Logistics (38/226 within Management, 2019), or the external pageJournal of Operations Management (40/226 within Management, 2019) are all Q1 Journal Impact Factor Quartile publications.
