The project with the title “When production outsourcing hurts a firm’s capability to create value from product innovations” is a collaboration between the Chair of Logistics Management and the Research Division Innovation Economics at the KOF. It is a PhD project of Stefan Naef and is co-authored by Dr. Mathias Beck, Prof. Dr. Martin Wörter, and Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner.

The findings show that production outsourcing affects the capabilities of manufacturing firms to create value from new products in the future. The combination of outsourcing and a concurrent reduction in the vertical scope of the firm reduces a firm’s capability to make and market new product innovations.
