Each DSI subdivision had the opportunity to nominate one faculty best paper and one PhD student best paper from the 2021 regional conferences. Ultimately, a total of 5 presenters from Europe and the US competed for the award in a live session. A panel of distinguished judges rated the competitors based on their presentations and finally the winner was announced at the DSI awards banquet.

In his presentation, Felix Bergmann gave the audience an understanding about how online retailers can evaluate which last-mile delivery services are important to their customers and, hence, which specific service bundles they should offer. Together with his co-authors Fabian Alber and Prof. Dr. Stephan M. Wagner, Felix Bergmann conducted an adaptive choice-based conjoint analysis and designed a simulation tool to assess the potential market success of various last-mile logistics service portfolios. The analysis of common scenarios implies that consumers’ logistics service preferences are very heterogeneous and that a diversified delivery option portfolio can significantly reduce the share of consumers for whom no logistics service option is acceptable and who would therefore abandon their online shopping cart.
