On the 51st Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) Annual Meeting, organized virtually, the paper “The Role of Risk Avoidance Mechanisms on Media-Reported Environmental Supply Chain Sustainability Risks” was acknowledged with the award for the Best Theory‐Driven Empirical Research Paper. The paper is authored by Dr. Ivana Mateska, a post-doctoral researcher at the Chair of Logistics Management. Grounded in the agenda-setting theory and stakeholder theory, this study takes into account the complex interplay between buying firm’s organizational characteristics and environmental sustainability levels and evaluates the effectiveness of risk avoidance mechanisms on media-reported supply chain sustainability risks. The findings suggest that for buying firms which belong to vulnerable categories, media-reported wrongdoings could be attenuated by pro-active (supplier selection) whereas augmented by re-active (contract termination) risk avoidance mechanisms.

In the DSI conference this year, two other research studies by the Chair of Logistics Management were presented: “Exploring the Role of IP Protection in Asymmetric Buyer-Supplier Relationships“, co-authored by Alexander Fink and Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner, and “The Downside of Digitalization: The Impact of Data Breaches on Shareholder Value”, co-authored by Maximilian Klöckner, Dr. Christoph Schmidt and Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner.

Members of the Chair of Logistics Management have actively participated at DSI conferences for the past 15 years. This year, Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner was a Chair for the track on ‘Purchasing and Supply Management’, as well as the track on ‘Humanitarian Operations and Supply Chain Management’, introduced for the first time at the DSI conference.
