Contributions at the POMS Conference 2025 in Atlanta

Researchers from the Chair actively participated in this year’s POMS conference in Atlanta, Georgia, including presentations of our work and organizing a session on Procurement in Complex Supply Networks.

by Maximilian Löffel & Christian Wagner

From May 8 to 12, Stephan Wagner, Maximilian Löffel, and Christian Wagner represented our  Chair at this year's external page Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) conference. The conference was themed “Fresh perspectives on OM for a new, better world,” bringing together academics and practitioners from a wide range of fields, including operations management, supply chain management, service operations, manufacturing, humanitarian operations, and more.

Maximilian Löffel presented findings from a study with the humanitarian organization Terre des hommes, elaborating on the potential of digital tools to improve healthcare in low- and middle-income countries while requiring greater system integration. The study is part of a collaboration with the organization, external page Nathan Kunz from Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH), and the HumOSCM Lab.

Christian Wagner contributed to several sessions. He was invited to present in the session Empirical Research in Supply Chain Management, organized by external page Brian Jacobs and external page Vinod Singhal. In this session, Christian shared insights from our ongoing study titled “Stock Market Reactions to Social Sustainability Incidents: The Impact of Severity, Resilience, and Firm Orientation.” The study examines the financial performance implications of 299 factory worker incidents involving large brand-name firms based in developed economies. In addition to presenting, Christian co-organized a session with external page Christoph Schmidt on the role of Procurement in Complex Supply Networks, inviting three scholars to share their ongoing works. Within this session, Christian presented our study “Spillover Effects of Social Sustainability Incidents Occurring in Complex Supply Networks,” which investigates how 142 social sustainability incidents affect financial performance and how supply network structures influence these effects. Furthermore, Christian participated in the Emerging Scholars Program, a dedicated track designed to support early-career academics in building careers in our field.

We thank the organizers for a great conference and look forward to continuing the fruitful discussions and collaborations in the future!
